Baseball Game Preview: Murphysboro Red Devils vs. DuQuoin Indians

The Murphysboro Red Devils are taking a road trip to take on the DuQuoin Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Murphysboro has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while DuQuoin will arrive with three straight wins.

Murphysboro might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to Carterville, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Murphysboro saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Graff, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DuQuoin). Everything went their way against Carmi-White County on Saturday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Indians with their most commanding win of the season.

Cy Craft was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Jeremiah Jones was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

DuQuoin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Murphysboro's loss dropped their record down to 4-19. As for DuQuoin, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.

Murphysboro was able to grind out a solid victory over DuQuoin in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 9-4. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
