Gering hasn't had much luck against Scottsbluff recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Rece Knight and Nate Kelley.
Gering is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against McCook on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Bulldogs lost 41-17 to the Bison. The game marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Although Gering took the loss, they still got scores from Bo Gable and Ryland Ray.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Scottsbluff, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Lexington 56-7. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won four contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Daniel Young and Mason Schmer. Young rushed for 87 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries while Schmer rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Those 87 rushing yards gave Young a new career-high.
Scottsbluff was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 503 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Scottsbluff's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Kobe Strom and Riley Stricker, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.
Scottsbluff pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.8 points over those games. As for Gering, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 4-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Gering has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Scottsbluff struggles in that department as they've been averaging 293.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Gering was taken down by Scottsbluff 35-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
