Basketball Recap: Marshall Rams vs. Bastrop Bears
While Marshall didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They strolled past the Bastrop Bears with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 59-40. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
Marshall got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Josiah Powell out in front who shot 60% from the field to rack up 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Vidaurri, who dropped a double-double with 12 boards and 11 assists.
Bastrop's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamarion Aldridge-Hopes, who posted eight points and three steals. Aldridge-Hopes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Brayden Sanchez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Marshall's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Bastrop, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.
Marshall is on the road again on Tuesday to play Boerne at 12:30 p.m. As for Bastrop, they have already played their next contest, a 68-39 victory against Eastside Early College on the 24th.
