Softball Recap: Cairo's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Cairo dropped to 16-8 on Saturday, ending the team's seven-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Northside Patriots, falling 8-2. If the Syrupmakers were looking for revenge after losing 8-3 to the Patriots when the teams met back in October of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Northside, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-6. Considering they have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Northside's part, Georgia Stokes looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Stokes has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Atali McCrea and Kennedy Williams did most of the damage at the plate: McCrea went 2-for-3 with one home run, while Williams went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits McCrea has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Anderson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Cairo will head out to square off against Worth County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 3.4, the Lions 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
