Soccer Game Preview: Great Oak vs. Murrieta Valley

The Great Oak Wolfpack are taking a road trip to take on the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Great Oak will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Great Oak is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Murrieta Mesa a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Wolfpack's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matchups.

Meanwhile, Murrieta Valley hadn't done well against Temecula Valley recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Murrieta Valley walked away with a 2-0 victory over Temecula Valley. The win was all the more spectacular given the Nighthawks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 105th).

Great Oak is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those nine contests. As for Murrieta Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Everything went Great Oak's way against Murrieta Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Great Oak made off with a 4-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Great Oak since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
