Volleyball Recap: Griffith Takes a Loss

Griffith lost against Merrillville on Saturday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Panthers fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 3-2. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 25-17 in the first set.

Griffith took Merrillville into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. The final score came out to 17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8.

Despite the loss, Griffith saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sydney Jancosek had 26 digs. Those 26 digs set a new season-high mark for Jancosek.

Griffith now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Merrillville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Coming up, Griffith will take on Hammond Bishop Noll at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Merrillville, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Lowell on the 20th.
