Baseball Recap: Newark Tech Comes Up Short

Newark Tech had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 12-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Newark Academy Minutemen, falling 15-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Terries of the 16-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Newark Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Newark Academy's part, Noah Andrews made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Andrews has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Carson DeVirgillio and Ryan Zhu did most of the damage at the plate: DeVirgillio got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Zhu went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs DeVirgillio has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Sampson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Newark Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newark Academy, they will face off against Newark Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
