Football Recap: Ruidoso Comes Up Short + How To Watch

While it was Ruidoso who put the first points on the board on Thursday, it was West Las Vegas who put up more. The Warriors took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dons. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Dons recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Ruidoso saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mason Fikany rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 49 receiving yards and one TD.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.2 yards per carry. While two picked up at least ten total tackles, Zach Friberg stood above the rest. He picked up 0.5 sacks and made ten total tackles (1.5 for loss). Ruidoso's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Ruidoso now has a losing record of 1-2. As for West Las Vegas, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ruidoso will square off against Robertson at 1:00 p.m. on the 13th. As for West Las Vegas, they will take on Portales at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
