Schurr and Montebello are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Spartans will square off against the Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Schurr's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
Schurr's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Alhambra 56-0. The Spartans have beaten the Moors the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Moors has come to flipping the script.

It was another big night for Mateo Carrasco, who rushed for 197 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries. Schurr is undefeated when Carrasco posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Torres, who threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Schurr was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Schurr didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Caesar Aguila and Nathan Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, Montebello played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Bell Gardens, falling 35-7. The Oilers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
Even if they lost, Montebello's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Giovanni Solorzano. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.6 total tackles per game.
Montebello's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Schurr, their record is now 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Schurr against Montebello in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
