Preview: Don Lugo Conquistadores vs. Ontario Jaguars
Don Lugo has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Ontario Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Don Lugo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Don Lugo, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-41 loss to Chaffey. Don Lugo has struggled against Chaffey recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sienna Robles, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Issabela Medina, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ontario's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 85-54 loss at the hands of Chino. While losing is never fun, Ontario can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 609th, while Chino is ranked 84th).
Don Lugo has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Ontario, they bumped their record down to 10-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Don Lugo took their win against Ontario in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 52-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Don Lugo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
