Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Coalinga's Winning Streak

Coalinga easily dispatched Avenal last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Coalinga Horned Toads fell just short of the Edison Vikings by a score of 53-51 on Saturday. The Horned Toads' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Coalinga's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Davis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Jaelyn Bourdeau was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Coalinga smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups.

Ajaila Jordan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Edison, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jordan has scored at least a third of Edison's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylani Moore, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Coalinga's loss dropped their record down to 21-4. As for Edison, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Coalinga wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 44-35 defeat against Mendota on the 4th. Edison has also already played their next game, a 69-66 victory against McNair on the 4th.
