Softball Recap: Valor Christian Comes Up Short

Valor Christian lost against Ralston Valley back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Eagles fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 16-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since August 16th.

Elizabeth Canales put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Kendall Ferguson and Annie Bieser did some serious damage despite the final result: Ferguson went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one double, while Bieser went 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was Bieser's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Whidden, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Valor Christian and nudges their season record down to 12-9. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Ralston Valley, their record now sits at 6-13.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Valor Christian is set to face off against their familiar foe Lakewood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Ralston Valley will challenge rival Columbine at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
