Basketball Recap: Center Comes Up Short

Center was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Colfax Falcons and fell 71-23. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 993rd, while the Falcons are ranked 114th).

Despite the loss, Center still got an impressive performance from Reniaya Applin, who went 6-for-13 en route to 13 points and eight rebounds.

Madalyn Sigrist was her usual excellent self, going 12-for-15 on her way to 26 points and three steals for Colfax. Sigrist is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Kaia Diederichs was another key player, putting up six points along with eight steals and six assists.

Center's loss dropped their record down to 5-22. As for Colfax, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Center will challenge Mira Loma at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Center is facing Mira Loma at the right time seeing as Mira Loma is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Colfax, they will square off against Oakmont at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Colfax knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Oakmont likes a good challenge.
