Recap: Monache Marauders vs. El Diamante Miners

The Monache Marauders waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They secured a 61-56 W over El Diamante. Given Monache's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while El Diamante is ranked 287th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monache found their leader in underclassman Milly Rojas, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rojas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of London Haynes, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Olivia Torres and Rian Jones-dillihunt certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Torres scored 23 points, while Jones-dillihunt almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Angelina Morales was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Monache is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. As for El Diamante, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monache will take on Redwood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Monache focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday. As for El Diamante, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Whitney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. El Diamante is facing Mt. Whitney at the right time seeing as Mt. Whitney is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
