Recap: Athens Wildcats vs. Troy Trojans
If the Athens Wildcats were riding high off their 53-29 takedown of the Midd-West Mustangs last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Athens ended up on the wrong side of a tough 54-28 walloping at the hands of Troy on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Athens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 551st, while Troy is ranked 226th).
Troy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Giana Renzi out in front who scored 12 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailyn Sterling, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Athens' loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Troy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Towanda at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. As for Troy, they will face off against Wellsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
