Basketball Recap: Mt. Eden Comes Up Short

Mt. Eden lost against Encinal back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mt. Eden Monarchs had to suffer through a 71-35 loss at the hands of the Encinal Jets. While losing is never fun, the Monarchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 991st, while the Jets are ranked 365th).

Jazzy Alcantar was her usual excellent self, going 11 for 22 on her way to 28 points along with six boards and five assists for Encinal. The dominant performance gave Alcantar a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Surina Castro, who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points.

Mt. Eden's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Encinal, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Mt. Eden didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-37 win against Hayward on the 28th. Encinal has also already played their next match, a 64-26 victory against Berkeley on the 28th.
