Softball Game Preview: Wheeler County Bulldogs vs. Clinch County Panthers

The Wheeler County Bulldogs will square off against the Clinch County Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wheeler County 2.9, Clinch County 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Wheeler County is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Vidalia just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 7-3 to the Indians.

Meanwhile, Clinch County put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Telfair County a 1-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Addy Barber's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clinch County's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Corbitt, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.

Clinch County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Clinch County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wheeler County, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.

Wheeler County took their win against Clinch County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
