Baseball Recap: Union County Gets the Win

The Union County Panthers had just enough and edged out the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors 9-8 on Friday.

Bo Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Maddox Patton was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Union County is 5-1 when Patton posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Lane Haney, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Union County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season.

Union County will have a chance to go back-to-back against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
