Softball Recap: South Johnston Triumphs

South Johnston proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the West Johnston Wildcats 4-2. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Randi Deese spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Johnston's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Finley Phillips, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

South Johnston has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for West Johnston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

South Johnston will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
