Basketball Recap: Golden Valley Takes a Loss

Golden Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Viewpoint, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 46-43 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Golden Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Brighton Blythe went 10-for-20 en route to 23 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 53.5% of the Grizzlies' points, marking the third time in a row Blythe has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Mendenhall, who earned nine points and three steals.

Golden Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Viewpoint, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Golden Valley and Fillmore will face off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Blythe and Yaneli Landin. As for Viewpoint, they will be taking part in a tournament against Notre Dame Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
