Football Recap: Huntington Comes Up Short Despite Nate Green's Big Defensive Game

Huntington scored first but ultimately less than Natchitoches Central in their game on Thursday. They received a blow as they fell 33-14 to the Chiefs. The Raiders gained 62 more yards on the day, but it was the Chiefs that made the best use of them.

Loss or not, Huntington got some senior leadership from Justin Whitaker and Caiden Starks. Whitaker threw for 225 yards and a pair of TDs, while Starks picked up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Huntington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nate Green.

It was another big night for Kelton Howard, who rushed for 140 yards and one score for Natchitoches Central. Howard's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 140 rushing yards. Owen Smith was in the mix too, providing Natchitoches Central with two TDs.

Huntington has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Natchitoches Central, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Huntington will head out to take on Airline at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Natchitoches Central, they are taking a road trip to square off against Benton at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Chiefs will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.89 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
