Softball Recap: Ralston Valley Takes a Loss

Ralston Valley lost against Rock Canyon back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since October 9, 2024.

Nina Renk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Stella Emnott and Kat Mastriona stepped up to the plate in a big way. Emnott went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Mastriona went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Harley Maday was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Ralston Valley and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Rock Canyon, they moved to 4-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Ralston Valley will take on Lakewood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Tigers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Rock Canyon, they will face off against Eaglecrest at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raptors' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
