Basketball Recap: Lyons Comes Up Short

Lyons's last matchup with SkyView Academy could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. The Lyons Lions lost 70-49 to the SkyView Academy Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Hawks are ranked 42nd).

Despite the loss, Lyons still got an impressive performance from Caleb Christiansen, who posted 18 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Lyons is 9-2 when Christiansen posts five or more steals, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jake LaCrosse, who scored six points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

It was another big night for Markus Lloyd, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds for SkyView Academy. With that strong performance, Lloyd is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Reagan Lewis was another key player, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.

Lyons' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8. As for SkyView Academy, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Lyons has already played their next contest, a 52-46 defeat against Heritage Christian on the 1st. As for SkyView Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 58-50 win against Bishop Machebeuf on the 1st.
