Softball Recap: Grand Island's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pius X, Grand Island was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Fremont Tigers by a score of 7-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Islanders as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Grand Island let Madisyn Hostetler and Karstyn Zuelow run wild. Hostetler went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Zuelow went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Zuelow a new career-high. Avery Hawke also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Grand Island was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Grand Island's record now sits at 2-9. As for Fremont, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Grand Island will challenge rival Lincoln Southeast at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Fremont is set to take on their familiar foe Norfolk at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
