Basketball Game Preview: Delta Saints vs. Leroy Greene Academy Lions

The Delta Saints will challenge the Leroy Greene Academy Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Delta will be strutting in after a win while Leroy Greene Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Leroy Greene Academy will be up against a hot Delta team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Delta blew past Creative Connections Arts Academy 70-14 on Tuesday. The Saints have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Leroy Greene Academy came up short against Westlake Charter on Tuesday, falling 36-16. The game marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Leroy Greene Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Anaya Alston posted six points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. That was a full 37.5% of Leroy Greene Academy's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazelle Moore, who scored no points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Delta has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Leroy Greene Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5.

Delta ended up a good deal behind Leroy Greene Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2020, losing 42-23. Thankfully for Delta, Adriana Rubio Perez (who put up 26 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
