Soccer Game Preview: Gilmer vs. Ridgeland

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Gilmer challenge Ridgeland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gilmer has three straight victories, Ridgeland has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Ridgeland better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Gilmer really gets things going. Gilmer blew past Adairsville 5-0 on Tuesday. Considering the Bobcats' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Ridgeland's offense. They lost 6-0 to Calhoun on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 375th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 165th).

Gilmer's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Ridgeland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Gilmer took their victory against Ridgeland when the teams last played back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 6-0. Does Gilmer have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ridgeland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
