Football Game Preview: Axtell Eagles vs. Wakefield Bombers

The Axtell Eagles will square off against the Wakefield Bombers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Axtell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Wakefield likes a good challenge.

If Axtell beats Wakefield with 54 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Eagles blew past Blue Valley 54-8 on Friday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Rams are ranked 69th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Wakefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Rural Vista [Hope/White City] and fell 52-0.

Axtell's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Wakefield, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything came up roses for Axtell against Wakefield in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 50-0 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Bombers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
