Jenna Mertz leads West Branch to victory over Mount Union

Recap: West Branch Warriors vs. Mount Union Trojans

The West Branch Warriors won the last time they faced the Mount Union Trojans, and things went their way on Friday too. West Branch rang in the new year with a 35-23 win over Mount Union.

Jenna Mertz continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Williams, who scored six points.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cailyn Skopic, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Maddie Dimoff, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Mount Union were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

West Branch now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Mount Union, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Branch will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Glendale at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th. As for Mount Union, they will take on Southern Huntingdon County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
