The Telfair County Trojans will square off against the Tiftarea Academy Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Telfair County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Telfair County didn't have quite enough to beat Bleckley County and fell 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Royals: they've now lost six in a row.
Telfair County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nala Parsons, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tiftarea Academy came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
Raelyn Owens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Cloe Sercer was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Calla Joyner, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Tiftarea Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deerfield-Windsor struck out eight times.
Tiftarea Academy's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Telfair County, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Telfair County suffered a grim 14-6 defeat to Tiftarea Academy when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
