Soccer Game Preview: Peninsula vs. El Segundo

The Peninsula Panthers will head out to challenge the El Segundo Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Peninsula will be strutting in after a win while El Segundo will be coming in after a loss.

If El Segundo heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Peninsula took over last week. Peninsula walked away with a 3-1 victory over North on Tuesday. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Saxons are ranked 393rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Allie Chang and Renata Lopez scored all three of Peninsula's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 11 goals.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, El Segundo was not quite Torrance's equal in the second half back in December of 2024. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Tartars an easy 5-1 win. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Tartars: they've now lost five in a row.

Peninsula is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5-2 record this season. As for El Segundo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
