Chaparral is 1-9 against Cherokee Trail since August of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wolverines will square off against the Cougars at 12:15 p.m. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Chaparral saw some tournament action on Friday. They came out on top against Lakewood by a score of 14-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
The team relied heavily on Izzy Mayoros, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Keegan Freitas, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. The last time their OBP was this high was back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cherokee Trail entered their tilt with Arvada West on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 16 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sydney Cobb made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Cobb was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Tayah Burton was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. Isabelle Becker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Chaparral's record is now 15-11. As for Cherokee Trail, their record now sits at 20-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chaparral hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Cherokee Trail struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chaparral might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Cherokee Trail in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
