Soccer Game Preview: San Clemente vs. San Marcos

The San Clemente Tritons are taking a road trip to square off against the San Marcos Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

San Clemente's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Northwood out 1-0. Given the Tritons' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Timberwolves are ranked 486th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, San Marcos put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Canyon Crest Academy as San Marcos made off with an 8-2 win. That looming 8-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Knights yet this season.

They hit Canyon Crest Academy with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Josie Willis (4), Ava Paolini (2), Lola Puccio, and Erin Tardy.

The victory made it two in a row for San Clemente and bumps their season record up to 4-3. As for San Marcos, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

San Clemente was able to grind out a solid victory over San Marcos in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 2-0. Will San Clemente repeat their success, or does San Marcos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
