Edina scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Minnetonka, 27-20. At the time, the Skippers was ranked 13th in the state, while the Hornets was 28th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Minnetonka, who took down 13th ranked Minnetonka, 27-20. Mark Handberg threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns and ran for four yards in the win.
Dave Nelson's team's dynamic duo of Nick Rooney and George Buchner proved tough for Edina to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rooney threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns and Buchner had 136 yards receiving. Andre Eubanks helped Minnetonka's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Kevin Placide was the most productive running back in Lake this week. He ran for 91 yards on 22 carries as Reed Boltmann's team lost to Reed Boltmann's team. Colin Ritter also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.
The Hornets' Handberg and Marley Allison have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Handberg has thrown for 784 yards this season, while Allison, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 32 catches for 395 yards. Ian Cote from Minnetonka leads the league in rushing with 487 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Edina and Hopkins. The Hornets enters the contest ranked eighth in the state, while the Royals ranks seventh.
Rooney and Buchner provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Edina. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in Lake this season.
