Baseball Recap: Harvey Comes Up Short

Harvey had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-16 to make it five. They fell just short of the Wickliffe Blue Devils by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on Saturday.

As for Wickliffe, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

For Wickliffe's part, Frankie Bucar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bucar also tossed no walks, which is notable because Wickliffe is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-11 otherwise. Bucar was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Ludvik, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Alex Aheimer was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Harvey didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-0 loss against St. Vincent-St. Mary on the 21st. As for Wickliffe, they will take on Northwestern in a tournament on Friday.
