Baseball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Mustangs vs. Wesleyan Wolves

Mount Vernon is 1-9 against Wesleyan since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Wolves at 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Mount Vernon didn't have quite enough to beat Whitefield Academy and fell 4-3.

Meanwhile, Wesleyan waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Scots a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Wolves have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Noah Beckman tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Grayson McCollum was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Hayes, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Wesleyan lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Galloway didn't launched any home runs.

Wesleyan pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mount Vernon, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
