Basketball Recap: Vacaville Christian Takes a Loss

If Vacaville Christian was feeling good fresh off their 51-4 takedown of Highlands last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vacaville Christian Falcons took a 41-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rio Vista Rams on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-39 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Vacaville Christian lost, don't look at Elena Vizcay. Despite the final result, she posted nine points along with eight boards and seven steals. Vizcay is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Vacaville Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Leading Rio Vista to victory were Samiah Holley and Keniyah Banks. Holley scored six points in addition to 12 steals and six rebounds, while Banks dropped a double-double with 14 points and 15 boards. Those 14 points gave Banks a new career-high. Caleigh Bloesch was another key player, putting up ten rebounds and four steals.

Vacaville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Rio Vista, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-14.

Vacaville Christian has already played their next match, a 51-46 win against Forest Lake Christian on the 20th. As for Rio Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 34-21 defeat against Ripon Christian on the 18th.
