High school football rankings: Miami Central finishes No. 1 in final Florida MaxPreps Top 25

Rockets hold off American Heritage 38-31 in 2M state championship game.

The high school football season in Florida came to a close over the weekend. Central (Miami) was among the winners, beating American Heritage (Plantation) 38-31 in the Class 2M state championship game. That victory helped propel the Rockets to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.

Central beat five ranked teams, including a 20-14 win in its season-opener over No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton). The Rockets notched their fourth consecutive state championship and ninth since 2010. Despite that recent history of high-level success, the program had never finished the season unbeaten until this year.
