Basketball Recap: Pottsgrove comes up short despite Mikayla Eckman's strong performance

Basketball Recap: Pottsgrove Falcons vs. Upper Merion Area Vikings

The Pottsgrove Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 45-32 to Upper Merion Area. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pottsgrove in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Pottsgrove lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mikayla Eckman. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleah Rockemore, who scored nine points along with three steals.

Pottsgrove struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Upper Merion Area racked up 14 assists.

Leading Upper Merion Area to victory were Devon Maiden and Kennedy Coles. Maiden scored 22 points along with four steals, while Coles dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 14 rebounds, and ten assists. It was the first time this season that Coles posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Avery Fox, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Pottsgrove has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Upper Merion Area, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.

Pottsgrove will head out on the road to face off against the Phantoms at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Phoenixville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Falcons in Pennsylvania (the Phantoms are ranked 197th, while the Falcons are ranked 579th). As for Upper Merion Area, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
