Basketball Recap: Mitchell's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Mitchell needed a changed in momentum after dropping four straight games and they got it from Kate Pieper. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Perkins County Plainsmen 48-45 thanks in part to Pieper, who went 11-for-23 on her way to 24 points along with six boards and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Perkins County lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Addison York, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds. She is becoming a predictor of Perkins County's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 5-2 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Macey Cole was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Mitchell's record is now 7-9. As for Perkins County, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-5 record.

Coming up, Mitchell will take on Hershey in a tournament on Friday. The Tigers' defense better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 50.5 points per game this season. As for Perkins County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 47-20 victory against St. Patrick's on the 22nd.
