Baseball Recap: Baldwin Finds Home Field Redemption Against Westside

There's no place like home for Baldwin, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Westside Patriots by a score of 6-3 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Braves: when they faced off against the Patriots last Tuesday, they had to take a 11-7 loss.

Rickey Jenks and Elier Moreno made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jenks didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Moreno pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Baldwin: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-13 otherwise. At the plate, Jenks scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Moreno scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, Moreno is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Tyler Baugh was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Tyren Bundrage also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Baldwin has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Westside, their record now sits at 12-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baldwin will welcome Northeast at 5:00 p.m. on the 14th. After both having extra time off, Westside and Aquinas will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 5:30 p.m. on the 15th. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fightin' Irish have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
