Basketball Game Preview: Northern Potter Panthers vs. Port Allegany Gators

Northern Potter hasn't had much luck against Port Allegany recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Northern Potter Panthers will take on the Port Allegany Gators at 6:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, Northern Potter came up short against Wellsboro and fell 41-34. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Port Allegany ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against Oswayo Valley by a score of 35-27. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Green Wave are ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northern Potter better focus on containing Ella Moses and Peyton Gordon as the pair were huge in Port Allegany's win. Moses posted 12 points and eight boards, while Gordon earned 13 points. Gordon is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Brynn Evens, who had eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

Port Allegany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matchups.

Northern Potter's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Port Allegany, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.

Northern Potter came up short against Port Allegany in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 53-41. Can Northern Potter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
