Softball Recap: Lamar Christian Lions vs. Laurel Christian Lions
Lamar Christian extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-3. They lost 13-0 to Laurel Christian. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against Laurel Christian this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-0 defeat two weeks ago.
As for Laurel Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.
For Laurel Christian's part, Leyla Rigby and Gracie Blackwell made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Rigby tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Blackwell struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rigby has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. At bat, Rigby got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Blackwell went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bella Williamson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Emma Risher was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.
Lamar Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Laurel Christian, they will challenge Prairie View Academy on Monday.
