Basketball Recap: Granada Comes Up Short

Granada lost against Northgate back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Granada Matadors might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Northgate Broncos an easy 61-41 victory. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 647th, while the Broncos are ranked 94th).

Northgate's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samantha Myhr, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Maddison Sardelich, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Granada has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Northgate, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Granada will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on American at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Northgate will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Benicia at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Northgate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season.
