Shiprock took a 24-point defeat the last time they faced off against Crownpoint, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chieftains slipped by the Eagles 19-18 on Friday. Surprisingly, this marked the Chieftains' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Blake Begay was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passing touchdowns (two).

Shiprock's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Crownpoint, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Shiprock will be playing in front of their home fans against Zuni at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chieftains will be up against the Thunderbirds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Crownpoint, they will challenge Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
