Nationally-ranked teams No. 10 IMG Academy, No. 11 Chaminade-Madonna and No. 20 American Heritage look to bounce back from season-opening losses.

A matchup between nationally-ranked programs Thursday headlines an intriguing high school football slate this week in Florida as No. 10 IMG Academy (Bradenton) meets No. 17 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.).

IMG Academy kicked off its campaign with a surprise loss to Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) 35-34, marking just the fourth setback for the Ascenders over the past five seasons. IMG hopes to make a statement this weekend against Bergen Catholic, which has won three consecutive state championships in New Jersey.

Two other nationally-ranked teams are looking to bounce back from season-opening losses this week as No. 11 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) travels to Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach) and No. 20 American Heritage (Plantation) plays host to Western (Davie).

Chaminade-Madonna fell to No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 34-27 last week, snapping its 14-game win streak. The Lions beat Blanche Ely 38-0 in the last meeting between the two programs in 2018.

American Heritage slipped up against No. 4 Milton (Ga.) 37-28 last week but still have plenty to prove with a tough schedule awaiting them in the coming weeks. The Patriots look to get back on the winning track against a Western squad that they defeated 28-14 last season.

Central (Miami) also looks to overcome an opening-week loss as the Rockets dropped out of the national rankings following a 16-8 setback against Lakeland to begin the year. Central hosts Edison (Miami) this week in a rematch of a first-round state playoff game that Central won 31-13 in 2023.

One of the most anticipated games of the weekend is a showdown between Northwestern (Miami) and Venice on Friday night. Head coach Teddy Bridgewater looks to duplicate a strong week one performance and guide Northwestern to a win over one of the best teams in the state. Venice won a shootout between the two teams last season, 63-46.
