Football Recap: Centennial Falls to Burleson in First Game of Season

Centennial unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Burleson Elks on Friday, falling 45-21. The Spartans were down 33-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Burleson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Sparks led the charge by rushing for 53 yards and one score, while also throwing for 106 yards and one touchdown while completing 81.8% of his passes. Nathan Jackson helped out on the ground, rushing for 100 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Centennial and Burleson should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Spartans will challenge Sam Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (191 vs. 761). Meanwhile, Burleson (ranked 239th) will meet Cleburne (ranked 544th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
