Alonso Rodriguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Cristo Rey Atlanta: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Ethan Minor and Collin Roberts did most of the damage at the plate: Minor scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Roberts scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Minor has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Robert Minor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Pebblebrook challenged Hillgrove on Tuesday. The Falcons lost 14-4 to the Hawks. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Pebblebrook saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Damian (DJ) Phipps, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Cristo Rey Atlanta now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Pebblebrook, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cristo Rey Atlanta has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pebblebrook struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cristo Rey Atlanta took their win against Pebblebrook in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 17-11 score. Will Cristo Rey Atlanta repeat their success, or does Pebblebrook has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
