Basketball Game Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Hillsdale FIGHTING KNIGHTS

The Homestead Mustangs will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Hillsdale FIGHTING KNIGHTS at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Homestead is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Mission San Jose on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Homestead was dealt a 62-32 defeat at the hands of Mission San Jose. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Hillsdale escaped with a win on Monday against Fremont by the margin of a single free throw, 40-39. Given the FIGHTING KNIGHTS's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Firebirds are ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Homestead's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Hillsdale, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Homestead came up short against Hillsdale in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 45-41. Can Homestead avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
