Basketball Recap: Isis Gates' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fremont over George Washington Prep

Fremont lost against George Washington Prep back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Fremont Pathfinders took a 51-36 bruising from the George Washington Prep Generals. While losing is never fun, the Pathfinders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 630th, while the Generals are ranked 284th).

Fremont lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Isis Gates, who posted 21 points. Janaea Carpenter was another key player, putting up 11 points.

It was another big night for Jaleyah Lucien, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds for George Washington Prep. Lucien is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Dereon Conant, who earned 21 points and four steals.

Fremont has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for George Washington Prep, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

Fremont has already played their next contest, a 31-22 victory against Lakeview Charter on the 25th. As for George Washington Prep, they will face off against Crenshaw at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. George Washington Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.5 points per game this season.
