Football Recap: Shawnee Heights Comes Up Short

Shawnee Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the De Soto Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunderbirds of the 69-57 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Shawnee Heights still got an impressive performance from Aiden Scott, who threw for 626 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt. Scott's passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 314 passing yards. Shawnee Heights' leading receiver AJ Gallegos was Scott's top target yet again, picking up 210 receiving yards.

Shawnee Heights' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for De Soto, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Shawnee Heights is set to take on their familiar foe Seaman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,110 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, De Soto will face off against rival Leavenworth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
